Do you think fashion magazines are as good now? They're different. The reason I did fashion was it was the only way to get paid to do anything creative. You couldn't support yourself as an "artist" – I hate that word. The only way you could be "arty" was as a fashion photographer, because it still had a certain amount of integrity involved. Now it's such a mass industry. They just churn it out. There's not much personality in it any more. You can't say, "That's a Helmut Newton picture", because you don't know who took the picture. "Who did the retouching?" is the question you ask. It makes mediocrity look good. And people who are really good, it makes them look mediocre, so it's a levelling out. It's a bit like socialism.

Agree!

In regard to the growing superficiality of design as made by the internet, Elbaz lamented over the loss of actual talent to the teeming masses of flash in the pan sensations. “Do you know anyone who wants to be a seamstress? Do you know anyone who wants to be a tailor?” he asked the audience incredulously. “I don’t, either. But I do know many people who want to be models, and not only models, but supermodels. This is the game today: Be famous, and do it really, really fast.” He stated that he hoped the craft skills of the fashion industry would return to their roots, but emphasized that he in no way supported tradition over progress.

We all have different motives. I've seen a lot of individuals floating through work just to be 'famous' and wanting to live in a 'glamorous' life. Someone told me reputation is build through time. I agree. No easy way there. Easy come, easy go. I personally enjoy the process of creation FIRST before enjoying the finished product and what ever additional extras that will come along later.

Escapism

I feel trapped. Thank god the mind can be an amazing tool. Visual satisfaction can lead me elsewhere.
